Box 33 - Preferred Strategy for Flood Risk

Representation ID: 19513

Received: 30/01/2009

Respondent: Guestling Parish Council

Representation Summary:

Box 33 Flood Risk. Maintaining flood defences is important (item a) but with forecast rises in sea levels it seems likely that the Shoreline management plans/Coastal strategies (item e) will need regular review to avoid uneconomic expenditure on slowing inevitable retreat.

Box 36 - Aim and Objectives

Representation ID: 19516

Received: 30/01/2009

Respondent: Guestling Parish Council

Representation Summary:

The aim and objective look good.
Box 36 (iv) "to integrate infrastructure programmes of key agencies" is an excellent idea but seldom happens. An example, EDF are currently renewing the electricity conductors across the parish. Recently the gas provider renewed gas mains in the parish. It is a pity that while there was a trench in the road the opportunity was missed to renew and bury the adjacent electrical cables. The benefits are so obvious in cost saved, disruption avoided, enhancement to the ANOB by the removal of poles and wires but it did not happen. Will future opportunities be taken? If the high speed fibre optic telephone/broadband cables are ever laid will the chance be taken to rationalise the existing infrastructure?

Box 11 - Preferred Strategy for Hastings Fringes

Representation ID: 20473

Received: 30/01/2009

Respondent: Guestling Parish Council

Representation Summary:

Guestling Parish includes a number of settlements in an ANOB (area of outstanding natural beauty) on the north and east boundary of Hastings. The wish is that these settlements retain their discrete rural nature and that the ANOB is protected from gradual urbanisation.
