A number of factors threaten the Port’s and the Harbour Road employment area’s future. Rastrum supports the protection of nature conservation areas in the LDF however balance should be maintained between nature conservation interests and people having a good standard of living, including the right to employment and to the peaceful enjoyment of their land.

Any LDF policy to develop the port’s commercial potential will need Environment Agency support. The LDF should state that national and international funding for port maintenance and improvement will be sought.

The Saltings is an ideal site for the expansion of the employment area.
