Box 8 - Shared Vision for Bexhill and Hastings

Representation ID: 19830

Received: 04/02/2009

Respondent: Crowhurst Society

Representation Summary:

The premise of the box is misleading in that not all benefits to Rother will accrue from working with Hastings some including shares of finance from central government will be less as a result of the partnership.

This is a Rother working document and this box may be rather out of place.

The learning strategy that has been adopted in Hastings has not been very successful. What is the point of working to deliver in Hastings when there are needs to be serviced in Rother?

6. Bexhill and Hastings Fringes

Representation ID: 19831

Received: 04/02/2009

Respondent: Crowhurst Society

Representation Summary:

6.42 The impact of development on Ancient woodlands is as much to do with proximity as it is to do with actual development. However, development in this area goes against the previous points made about protecting the rural environment and natural character of the countryside. Upper Wilting is surely a natural part of the Crowhurst area rather than Hastings .

6.45 This land needs to be protected -it is yet another strategic gap threatened with development.

6.48. The desire of Hastings to close the strategic gap between it and Rother cannot be accepted whatever the reason for it. The gaps between settlements must be preserved. The area in question is already reeling under the impact of the link road, greenway, flood issues etc etc.

6.50 A Wilting Station will kill of Crowhurst Station. What is the rationale behind such a station? -It is surely only to facilitate more development!

Box 11 - Preferred Strategy for Hastings Fringes

Representation ID: 19832

Received: 04/02/2009

Respondent: Crowhurst Society

Representation Summary:

Box 10 -Investment in the countryside needs to be quantified -the major investment in the Countryside Park to-date has been at the hand of landowners not the council.

(In the Link Road greenway proposals the cycle track ends at the Queensway!)

Box 11 - Preferred Strategy for Hastings Fringes

Representation ID: 19833

Received: 04/02/2009

Respondent: Crowhurst Society

Representation Summary:

(a)(iii) is vital for the reasons already discussed (this relates to maintaining effective countryside gaps) in other reps.

No mention of water supply.

Why has Rother money been spent on publicising the fringe of Hastings development?

7. Battle

Representation ID: 19834

Received: 04/02/2009

Respondent: Crowhurst Society

Representation Summary:

7.19 Sector 5 development at Wilting will have a deleterious effect on Crowhurst.. Rother needs to oppose this area of development.

7.26 How exactly is this to be achieved without grid lock in Battle itself

7.39 Much more effort needs to be placed in making Battle the centre of 1066 historical Tourism. A copy of the Bayeux Tapestry, more re-enactments, study days, guided battlefield tours, Battle of Hastings Annual Dinner in Battle Abbey.

Box 13 - Preferred Strategy Direction for Battle

Representation ID: 19835

Received: 04/02/2009

Respondent: Crowhurst Society

Representation Summary:

Box 13 d(iii) - On what basis is the statement at' d' made. Surely SATURN has little to offer when it comes to predicting traffic changes on roads like that through Battle. The logic of a reduction resulting from the Link Road needs to be questioned.

Comments on any other Core Strategy matter

Representation ID: 19836

Received: 04/02/2009

Respondent: Crowhurst Society

Representation Summary:

I think it is vital that Parish Councils are included in the consultees at all levels of the plan development. 40% of the RDC population lives in rural areas and it is to the Parish Council that they owe first allegiance.

9. Rural Areas

Representation ID: 19838

Received: 04/02/2009

Respondent: Crowhurst Society

Representation Summary:

Again in 9.11 the important role of Parish Council should be stressed. Parish Councillors are the only level of elected representatives that are largely a-political and work to ensure that they know what local people want.
9.13 Village needs are often ignored- i.e. traffic calming in Crowhurst. 9.18 On what service centre is the development at Upper Wilting based!? 9.29 Does this mean that the discussion is devoid of any hard facts? 9.45 What help is offered by RDC to small villages like Crowhurst struggling to meet village needs with an inappropriate Village Hall at its centre.
9.46 The fate of Adam's Farm in Crowhurst illustrates the fragility of the historical landscape and heritage.
