I am in favour of adopting the Government's Internal Space Standards (para. 8.20) and note that 44% of recently built and approved schemes are substandard. (para.8.22)
Paragraph 8.23 seems to be suggesting that developers could meet the Government's standards by re-classifying double bedrooms as single bedrooms. This is entirely the wrong approach and developers should not be encouraged to classify rooms as being single bedrooms in order to obtain planning permission and then marketing the dwelling as having double bedrooms.
It is imperative that homes are of an adequate size to support the needs of the occupants.
