Core Strategy Consultation on Strategy Directions 2008

Representation ID: 19669

Received: 02/03/2009

Respondent: Messrs. Chishick, Commotto and Terry

Representation Summary:

Cycle paths need to be real ones, not just lines on a map that turn out to be a normal road with no special provision for cyclists other than a white line. Cycle paths also illustrate the propensity for "green" initiatives to generate unexpected negative consequences that are ignored in the name of "greenness". The creation of the NCN has led to the proliferation of badly-placed and often unnecessary cycle path signs. The LDF needs to caution that even apparently "green" initiatives need to be examined for negative externalities.
