Box 15 e) (ii) The provision of retail space of 1,650 sq m is too much. It would mean an area double that of Budgens/Jempsons which means a supermarket. There is no land available in the town centre and therefore it would have to be outside of the centre in contravention of government guidelines.
While quoting shopping studies to show the need for this space there does not appear to be a study to show the affects a supermarket would have on the town. This has been the downfall of many town centres in the SE.
