Representation ID: 20338
Received: 15/01/2009
Respondent: Sussex Enterprise
The proposal for increased business space throughout Rother District that will increase the current provision by 32% until 2026 is welcomed by Sussex Enterprise. The Voice of Business Survey 2008 showed that a quarter of businesses in Sussex had found their business growth hampered by inadequate new and existing business premises, and this proposal will go some way to remedying this situation.

Without suitable premises businesses could be forced to relocate out of the area. The rents for these premises should also be affordably priced, as 14% of businesses in East Sussex say that their rents have increased in the last 12 months. If high rents are set in the proposed office space, it may price many out of the market, leading to jobs not being created and 'sustainable economic growth' not being achieved.

Box 18 - Preferred Strategy for Countryside
Representation ID: 20346

It is very important that preserving the pieces of open countryside mentioned, between Hastings and Bexhill, Crowhurst Battle and Fairlight, does not mean sacrificing land that may be appropriate for business or domestic premises. This would inhibit business growth and the 'sustainable economic growth' that the district is looking to secure.

Box 17 - Preferred Strategy for Villages
Representation ID: 20349

The plan to ensure the continued economic sustainability of the countryside is supported, in particular the proposal to encourage 'additional small-scale local job opportunities [and] the retention of employment sites, local shops and public houses.' It is vital to ensure these communities are as self-sufficient as possible.

The sustainable economic growth will prove impossible if an effective and efficient transport infrastructure is not secured. This currently has a sizeable effect on businesses, costing each in Sussex an estimated £29,000 every year. We believe the transport issues should be a priority, in particular the Bexhill-Hastings Link Road. We back the swift implementation and building of this road as a major source of providing sustainable economic growth through easier access to the Conquest Hospital, jobs, sites that may be developed for housing and to ease congestion on other roads.
