Box 5 - Preferred Strategy for Development Boundaries
Representation ID: 19202
Received: 28/01/2009
Respondent: Salehurst & Robertsbridge Parish Council
Development Potential - We find the existing development boundaries very useful and wish to retain and if possible enhance them - in particular we would like the planning strategy strengthened in relation to development along Brightling Road between Knelle Road and Bugsell Lane to retain the rural aspect of this road and not allow any further development along it.

Any residential development at the former Mill site should be included in the total allocation for Robertsbridge and not to be treated as 'windfall'. All 'infill' developments should be counted as part of the increased housing allocation for Robertsbridge.

We Support the proposals but in addition, we feel that more emphasis should be placed in new building design on ensuring that porous surfacing should be used for driveways etc. - especially important in areas prone to flooding from river or surface run-off such as Robertsbridge - and more emphasis placed on energy efficiency.

(C) For the Historic Environment - we Support the proposal to protect the locally distinctive character of historic buildings and settings and to this end would wish to see assessments for the historic settlements at Salehurst and Northbridge Street to see if they should be included in the Conservation Area schedule.
(b) For Services and Community Development - we Support the proposals but would like to see a strengthening of the protection of business premises against conversion to residential. Without this the village designation as a 'service centre is at risk.

We Support the ELR suggestion to provide more support and encouragement for local businesses. In addition, we feel that more emphasis should be given to supporting and encouraging equestrians businesses which are an import contributor to the economy and the creation of employment in the rural areas.

Box 22 - Preferred Strategy for Gypsies and Travellers
Representation ID: 19215
Received: 28/01/2009

Comment (iii) When considering rural sites the size of site should be limited in relation to any adjacent community. Any proposal to increase the size of the existing site at Robertsbridge would not be acceptable. The larger the site the more it encourages isolation and discourages long-term integration into the community.

we Support the proposals but would like to see the inclusion of a sheltered/assisted housing scheme for Robertsbridge. This could free up larger houses but enable older residents to stay close to their relatives and friends and allow them to continue their existing social interaction and interests.
