Object to the Council's approach on the economy as it does not include proposals that will delivery positive change to the economic and social conditions within the District.
The references to Rye take too much account of physical aspects of the town and not enough consideration of the economic and social needs of the community.

This does not go far enough to achieve the "step change" in economic performance the District requires.
Needs to be explicitly stated. The creation of the circumstances that will facilitate new investment in the local economy. Economic improvements will not occur unless steps are taken to enable them to happen. A conservative approach will not achieve this. It will simply perpetuate the weak economy and levels of social deprivation. The Council must take a more proactive approach and create opportunities for economic growth that are currently missing.

Part (b) assumes that identifying land for new employment development is enough. There is a range of other factors that the strategy fails to take into account. These relate to the suitability of land in terms of location, accessibility, investment value, cost of development, character of the surrounding area and availability of competing sites elsewhere. The Strategy does not reflect the comments set out in paragraph 5.17 of the document.

Boxes 25 and 15 taken together show there is no strategy for improving the economic situation of Rye. The Council has not fully considered what is required to create the "step change" in the economic fortunes of the District. The Council must develop a strategy that addresses the other factors that affect such development.
