Question 1 re. the key issues for development and change up to 2026
Representation ID: 18608
Received: 31/01/2007
Respondent: Ewhurst Parish Council
Agree with the key issues identified but suggest that 3.12 should acknowledge the eastern end of the District's connectivity with Ashford (growing in importance) and the Continent. 'wider region' could be usefully broadly defined.
The 'drivers for change' need to be focused on transport (road & rail) development - particularly east-west improvements (rather than historical radial links to/from the London hub).

Rother's 'rate of growth' should be guided by employment growth (in turn linked with improved transport infrastructure). Inward migrating 'retirees' should not be encouraged.

The aims identified at 4.8 are all laudable but Aim 5 should be prioritised as it will help to achieve Aim 4 (more prosperous and diverse economy). However, it is recognised that the Aims 2, 4 and 5 are interdependent.
4.13-4.14 Would like to see (f) (supporting young people and economically active lifestyles) and (g) (increasing skill levels and helping local businesses to grow), in particular; taken forward.

Representation ID: 18613
Received: 31/01/2007
Respondent: Ewhurst Parish Council
More work needs to be undertaken on integrating train and bus services. The A259 is overwhelmingly the most important transport link through then District, linking the eastern end with the A2070/M20 and Channel Ports. The congestion on the A259 (Rye) could be addressed with a by-pass.

Green belts need to be maintained to protect natural built and historic environments and flood plains preserved to continue to provide an important level of protection for inhabited environments. Rye and Battle's historic built environments are being damaged by traffic volume and weight.
