It is critical that adequate green space and sports provision is provided for the community and that this is of a good quality. One issue to take into account when assessing the provision to be made for outdoor sports pitches with reference to the current playing pitch strategy which identifies a deficit in provision is that the increasingly wet winters are reducing the scope for football to be played on grass pitches throughout the winter and early spring. Consideration should perhaps therefore be given to the feasibility and benefit of providing all weather surfaces where there is scope for such provision to be managed by the community/club/management organisation etc.
