Welcome the recognition of the Kent & East Sussex Railway and Bodiam Castle as popular tourist destinations and their importance as components of the rural economy and benefit to local services. The roles of the K&ESR as a major tourist destination in itself and as an economic generator and public transport provider along the Rother Valley, particularly in respect of Bodiam Castle, will be enhanced following the extension of the railway from Bodiam to Robertsbridge to provide a direct link with main line rail services.

The K&ESR is a major tourist attraction, economic generator and public transport provider that not only wishes to improve its existing facilities but also extend the existing railway from Bodiam to Robertsbridge to provide a direct link with main line rail services. Support the strategy in Policy RA2(iii), (vi) and (vii) to limit new development in the countryside to that which supports economic and tourism needs, support enjoyment of the countryside through improving access and support tourism facilities.

The inclusion of the extension of the K&ESR between Bodiam and Robertsbridge as a suitable tourism proposal in connection with Policy EC6 is particularly welcomed and, together with saved Local Plan Policy EM8, will provide significant planning support for this project.

The saving of Local Plan Policy EM8 which supports the extension of the K&ESR between Bodiam and Robertsbridge is welcomed, pending the adoption of the Development & Site Allocations DPD. This policy complies with the policies set out in the Core Strategy and sets out appropriate specific criteria for the railway's extension.
