Disappointing that the 'cultural' role of Rye is not recognised within the Vision. Rye has historically attracted an artistic and literary community and does so to this day. The town boasts several art galleries, two accredited museum sites, and supports a number of diverse cultural groups.
The Sustainable Community Strategy for East Sussex includes cultural activities as a local priority. Culture is listed within the 'Top 10' strategic development issues particular to Rother. Culture is also mentioned as one of the main policy areas cited at 16.15.
It is disappointing that the 'cultural' role of Rye is not recognised within the Vision. Rye has historically attracted an artistic and literary community and does so to this day. The expected acquisition of the Lion Street site by the Fletcher Theatre illustrates that there is a strong local interest in improving the cultural offer of Rye.

Following our comment on the need for the vision to include reference to Rye's cultural offering it will be necessary to also amend the strategic objectives. This will be in line with the SCS for East Sussex that has cultural activities within the 'Top 10' strategic development issues particularly in Rother.

In line with our comments on cultural activities and the amendments required in the Vision, Strategic Objectives and the opening on the Rye and Rye Harbour chapter, the Rye & Rye Harbour Objectives will need an additional objective.

The changes requested to the objectives to reflect Rye's cultural ambitions should be included within the General Strategy for Rye. Paragraph 10.9 refers to some of the tourist activities in the town and the intention to support these to sustain tourist interest through the year. This can be amended to cover cultural activities.
It should also be noted that the Medieval Festival has not taken place for some years.
