BWEA welcomes preparation of this SPD and supports the Council's vision for low carbon sustainable development and emphasise the potential contribution of renewable technologies in ensuring sustainable development.

Recommend inclusion of references to PPS22 Renewable Energy, and the new Climate Change supplement to PPS1.

BWEA suggest a policy for mandatory on-site renewable energy, as requested by Minister for Housing and Planning. This onsite renewable energy should provide electricity for at least 10% of all building needs.

In order for SPD to establish the community as an example of sustainable design, BWEA would like greater emphasis given to renewable technologies.
