Representation Summary:

We do not need anymore housing in Battle! It is damaging to the environment, ruining the countryside and the area cannot cope with a larger population using the doctors, dentists, schools etc.

Rother Local Plan 2020-2040 (Regulation 18)

Representation ID: 25392

Received: 15/07/2024

Respondent: Mr P. Beard

Representation Summary:

This piece of land is outside the development boundary and is set within a countryside location where national and local planning policies strictly control residential development and only allow new dwellings in limited circumstances.

Visibility from both accesses is poor. The quoted traffic volumes are a low estimate as almost every journey will be made by car. This is overdevelopment, adding to the hazards of a busy narrow lane with no footways.

An additional 14 houses would easily generate at least 28 more cars using the area.

Several houses are situated close to the roadway and would be affected by the higher traffic flow.

Guestling Green attracts walkers and horse riders along Chapel Lane and more traffic would create a hazardous situation.

If the original planning application for this site was for 4 houses and was rejected, how can it be possible that 14 houses could even be considered.

Rother Local Plan 2020-2040 (Regulation 18)

Representation ID: 25644

Received: 20/07/2024

Respondent: Mr John Doe

Representation Summary:

Housing is needed in Battle - but it needs to be the right type of housing, for the local population not executive homes.

Full text:

I support more housing in Battle. But it needs to be the right kind of housing. There is no need for 4/5 bedroom executive homes for sale at over half a million pounds. There is a need for more 2 and 3 bedroom homes which are either available for long term social rent or to buy at prices that relate to local wages.
It is desirable that housing is built to suit the existing population. BUT that appears to be focused on the ageing population rather than trying to attract young families to the town. A great number of properties are for sale currently aimed at the over 55s - if these are not deemed suitable then the restriction should be lifted.
Other comments have sensibly suggested that elderly households do not want 1 or 2 bedrooms anyway.
There needs to be a housing needs survey for Battle (not just a Rother HNS). Our young people cannot afford to live here - our demographics show lower than average number of young people compared with other areas.
I am frustrated by the people who claim that Battle does not need housing - these people are clearly not and have never experienced homelessness or lived with the fear of it. If Battle had taken the NIMBY approach, many of the houses over the last 40 or 50 years would not have been built.

Representation Summary:

Well after living here for over 20 yrs, always being told that this is a "area of outstanding natural beauty" by you guys!
now I find out that Flimwell could have over hundred houses built, the area marked for this is at the back of our house up-to Bedgebury forest, on woodland & green field's
I know what the locals say doesn't change anything, & I constantly hear/see things being done without permission, and generally nothing is ever done about it.
So I know you will do what you thinks best? even thou you will distory Nature & people's wellbeing

Well done

Respondent: East Sussex County Council

Representation Summary:

HOU1: Mixed and Balanced Communities, HOU2 Affordable Housing and HOU3: 100% Affordable Housing Developments p229 – 246; It is important that new development considers active travel routes to/from the site or identifies opportunities for the development to introduce these to connect people to places from where they live. This is important for all, but especially those who do not have access to a private car or cannot afford public transport.

Rother Local Plan 2020-2040 (Regulation 18)

Representation ID: 28169

Received: 22/07/2024

Respondent: East Sussex County Council

Representation Summary:

Chapter 8. Housing, p228-315; In light of the ageing population, and to support the justification for the proposed housing policies, and the need to provide specialist and adaptable accommodation, it is suggested that the Local Plan makes reference to the following documents that contain contextual information on an ageing society:

• The Role of Home Adaptations in Improving Later Life (Centre for Ageing Better)
• Supported Housing in England: Estimating Need and Costs to 2040 (National Housing Federation)

In addition, to reflect older people’s needs, especially in relation to dementia, reference in the supporting text could be made to the East Sussex Dementia Joint Strategic Needs Assessment.
