Any landscaping that is required to be part of the planning application should use native planting (that is also climate resistant) and it should come from the local area so that diseases are not brought into the area.

Respondent: Woodland Trust
We recommend these additions
- explicit protection for ancient woodland and ancient / veteran trees
- setting a presumption for retention of all existing trees, unless the applicant can demonstrate necessity
- setting a minimum tree canopy cover target for development sites, to deliver the policy goal of enhanced tree cover
- setting a replacement ratio greater than 1:1 where trees are unavoidably lost to development
Such a policy will also make a positive contribution to biodiversity net gain and nature recovery, as well as better reflecting the requirements of the NPPF.

A local Nature Recovery Network community organisation has launched a dark sky initiative spanning multiple parishes within Rother, aimed at achieving Dark Sky Community certification by 2026.
Seven Rother Parish Councils are committed to the project, with more to follow. This proves there is widespread strong support for dark skies.
Please see attached the terms of reference for the initiative. We would like Rother to take this initiative into account when finalising the Local Plan.
