I am writing to strongly object to the proposed development of land at Almonry Farm, North Trade Road (Site ID BAT0014).
Battle is a significant market town, home to one of the UK’s most important historical sites, attracting thousands of visitors annually. Building over this historic land would transform Battle from a charming small town into a less attractive conurbation, negatively impacting local businesses and the economy.
The fields of Almonry Farm were once part of Battle Abbey and hold historical significance. These along with ancient woodlands and hedgerows, provide a crucial green buffer between the town and Battle Abbey. The proposed access road would bisect two historically important buildings via a residential garden: Almonry Farmhouse (a Grade 2 listed building) and Almonry Oast House. Constructing the access road would necessitate the removal of a substantial number of mature trees and shrubs, further damaging the area's historical and environmental integrity.
