The Dark Skies Policy seems to apply only to rural areas, yet lighting spills and sky glow from conurbations affect rural skies. Acknowledgement of lighting pollution and best practice for reducing it in the towns and more built up urban areas should be a material consideration in planning decisions.

It is excellent that Rother recognises the value of the Dark skies in our area and that they are worthy of conservation. They should also work towards improving them and extending the reach of the Dark skies by considering the impact that lighting as part of planning applications in towns as well as in the countryside has on the surrounding dark skies. The glow from towns is not insignificant and any chance to mitigate its impact should be encouraged.
