Rother Local Plan 2020-2040 (Regulation 18)

Representation ID: 26659

Received: 29/07/2024

Respondent: Stephen Nicholls

Representation Summary:

This is a national issue due to the pressure placed on the land by population growth, plus the drip
feeding of housing availability by developers to maximise prices, hence my suggestion to tax land
banking heavily. Very heavily. Councils are making the situation worse by permitting land banking.
Unfortunately there is no such thing as affordable housing anywhere in the SE of England and in any
case the policies behind AH are lacking, with buyers obtaining a discount at purchase, but able to sell
on, maximise profits and pocket that discount after too short a time, as opposed to pass it to the next
people after a few years with the discount still applied. The solution is either council or housing
association built rentable accommodation for local people or a change to the AH sale rules.
