Rother Local Plan 2020-2040 (Regulation 18)

Representation ID: 25311

Received: 12/07/2024

Respondent: Mrs Pauline Murphy

Representation Summary:

A bold solution for Battle would be using dated houses and converting into mutiple residences. Buildimg on brownfield to create affordable homes for the young and 64 plus close to amenities. Not building on greenfield such BAT0014 or BAT 0026 that only benefits the huge profits of the developers.

Rother Local Plan 2020-2040 (Regulation 18)

Representation ID: 25887

Received: 22/07/2024

Respondent: Ms Anna Hollyman

Representation Summary:

Maximising housing delivery must also be done in a manner that minimises whole life carbon, so that the upfront embodied carbon of new constructed is taken into account, and existing buildings and materials are reused and repurposed as far as possible.
Furthermore, simply building more housing will not necessarily result in more affordable housing for local people, unless the challenge of second home ownership, and airbnb-style ownership is addressed at the same time.
Genuinely affordable house prices need to be linked to local wages, so alternative ownership models may need to be part of the solution, e.g. Community Land Trusts.
