One thing that will help to make Rother "a great place to grow old" would be more affordable, more frequent, and more reliable public transport. To get to a cataract clinic in Bexhill from my home in Battle this week, I had to pay for a taxi both ways, at a total cost of £44. To visit my 96-year old mother in a care home in Heathfield cost me £70. The flexibus is a good start, but isn't quite delivering on the promise: booking is a time-consuming hassle, and it's often not available at the times or on the routes I need.
