Many Councils and notably, Northumberland Council, have made provision for fully self contained motorhomes/ campervans to park overnight in their select carparks close to local amenities. Camping activities are not allowed but sleeping is. The Councils have installed EHU (electric hook up) and the spaces are booked via an online booking system. The Councils charge approx £10/15 per night and not only do the Councils benefit from extra income but local restaurants, pubs and shops benefit from extra trade. This practice is very common in Europe, as is municipal motorhome service points which charge approx £5 to access clean water and dispose of waste.
