Representation Summary:

The development of the Kent and East Sussex Railway at Robertsbridge will provide a huge boost for the tourism industry not only in Robertsbridge but settlements associated with the line namely Salehurst, Bodiam, Northiam and Tenterden. A knock on effect of this will be felt in businesses allied with tourism such as the food and drink trade and hospitality trade.

Representation Summary:

The railway being developed in Robertsbridge is run by the Rother Valley Railway not Kent and East Sussex (if this is wrong what other information is incorrect?). Has any research been carried out as to what impact this will have on the village? i.e. parking, what else there is to look at in the village? The link to the K&ESR must be several years away and therefore, this cannot be considered the main tourist attraction. Robertsbridge is supposed to be a Medieval village (over 750 years old) but extensive new development means that the old charm has been lost.

Respondent: Kent & East Sussex Railway Co. Ltd.

Representation Summary:

Welcome the recognition of the Kent & East Sussex Railway and Bodiam Castle as popular tourist destinations and their importance as components of the rural economy and benefit to local services. The roles of the K&ESR as a major tourist destination in itself and as an economic generator and public transport provider along the Rother Valley, particularly in respect of Bodiam Castle, will be enhanced following the extension of the railway from Bodiam to Robertsbridge to provide a direct link with main line rail services.
